Project Description

This is an 8’x26′ addition onto the main farm share distribution barn for Mountain View Farm in Easthampton, Ma. The frame was cut from timbers milled nearby in Williamsburg. The original storefront that was removed prior to installation of our new addition was a shed roof design. This presented a real problem for the farm that had a lot of foot traffic through the main entryway and would drench customers on rainy days and set up avalanches of snow that piled up right on the door. So we decided to create a small gable end style addition that moved the rain and snow away from the entry.

We re-purposed old window sashes that were collecting dust in the loft of the barn and custom built the jambs and sills with red cedar. The carriage doors were also custom built in our shop using spanish cedar and doug fir with tempered glass panes from Smith Glass in Northampton. The doors were framed using all mortise and tenon joinery without the use of a single nail!
